From Katharine Lindsay and The Maui Jim Horse Trials:

The Maui Jim Horse Trials promises to be an extra exciting spectator event this year. The competition will run July 12-15 at Lamplight Equestrian Center and the DuPage County Forest Preserve’s Pratt Wayne Equestrian Area in Wayne, Illinois. In addition to National divisions of competition that include Advanced through Training levels, a full gamut of International, (F.E.I.), divisions will be featured – CIC Three Star, CIC Two Star and CIC One Star. All three levels made their Midwestern debut last year at Maui Jim and attracted 120 of the country’s top athletes. Elite eventers from Canada also competed prior to shipping to Europe for the World Equestrian Games.

Although still three months away, preparations for the weekend are kicking into high gear. Jumps are being constructed, on-going improvements to the already spectacular Lamplight grounds are being made, and cross country design plans are being finalized. When the finished product is showcased in July, it will be the culmination of months of advanced planning – officials contracted, details of stabling, parking and competitor amenities worked out, and sponsorship and advertising plans implemented. Maui Jim, Inc., the Peoria, Illinois based manufacturer of state of the art polarized sunglasses, has again retained the designation of Title Sponsor, and host facility, Lamplight, has agreed to sponsor the CIC Three Star. Additionally, the competition has again earned the honor of being named a United States Eventing Association Adequan Gold Cup Series event which designates it as one of the to ten such events in the country.

As if the weekend weren’t going to be busy enough, the Spalding Labs Young Event Horse Tests for 4 and 5 year olds will take place on July 12. These tests are designed to showcase future equine stars of the sport. The competition will also preview the national Young Event Horse Championships that will be held in September in conjunction with the Wellpride American Eventing Championships, September 13-16. These exciting competitions will also be held at Lamplight and the Pratt Wayne venues.

The beneficiaries of the Maui Jim Horse Trials are Illinois Wisconsin Search Dogs, Inc. and programs participating in the Illinois Special Olympics Equestrian Competition that will run side by side with the final phase of the event on July 15.

Admission for all four days of competition is free, and families are invited to browse the many vendors that will be on site, enjoy food prepared by the Lamplight caterer, and watch the best equine and human athletes in the country. For more information, log on to www.mauijimhorsetrials.org.
